The Old Town Hall Theatre (Opera House)

The Old Town Hall was built in 1874 with the first floor being used for Municipal and Police Offices, Council Meetings and Court Hearings. The second floor hosted minstrel shows, public meetings and social gatherings.

In March 1980, the Old Town Hall was designated a heritage structure under the Ontario Heritage Act. It remains the only building in the city with this honour despite many early structures remaining in use in the town. This designation protects the building against alteration or
demolition. The first floor is home to the Public Library. The second floor was restored in 1988 into an Opera House.
