Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Designation

Aylmer's Rotary Park

The Town of Aylmer’s Rotary Park has achieved designation as a “Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary” by the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary (ACSS), the educational division of Audubon International. Following a multi-year work program and commitment on the part of the Town of Aylmer staff, lead by Municipal Parks and Property Manager Thom Polland, Rotary Park achieved certification effective January 10, 2006.

Rotary Park is the first property in Ontario to be designated through the Audubon Society. The Corporaton of the Town of Aylmer is the second corporation (and the only municipal corporation) in Canada to be certified. The Town is the 46th in the world to obtain certification.

To achieve certification a corporation must demonstrate that they are maintaining a high degree of environmental quality in five different areas. These areas include:

*Environmental Planning
*Outreach and Education
*Waste Management
*Resource Conservation
*Wildlife Habitat Management
